Bug-less in Midlothian
Hey all,
We are Joseph & Dawn Roy would love to join you wonderful VW folks. We have two sons and
live in Midlothian. Alas, we are totally bug-less. We are in the hunt for our first bug. Would love
something '67 and older....if you have any leads....please let us know. We are not mechanics,
but are willing to learn some of the simpler parts of maintaining a bug.
Have met a couple of people at Buffalo Wild Wings. We are hoping to get to some of the other
Cruise In's.
Hope to meet everyone real soon.
Dawn & Joseph

Re: Bug-less in Midlothian
Dawn & Joseph...let me know if you want to look at that 67. Also, at our show on June 19th there will possibly be some vehicles for sale, too. I'm sure you know about thesamba.com and craigslist when looking for a VW to buy, ebay, too. Good luck finding something!
Re: Bug-less in Midlothian
We are no longer bug-less in Midlothian. Thanks to Brian and a road trip to
Amherst, VA....we have a 1966 VW Bug. She is solid with a strong engine.
Thanks to Brian for helping us score this lovely gal. Hoping to bring her to
an event soon.

Nice score. How about some pics? Kudos to Brian! The local bug scene will be missing something once he leaves.... good or bad..... I haven't decided yet.. Kidding, hope somebody picks the torch up when he leaves.

Re: Bug-less in Midlothian
Thanks, Steve!
I rode up with Dawn and Joseph to Lynchburg yesterday and first we saw a very original 1967 bug (one owner...link: http://richmond.craigslist.org/cto/1787567491.html). It needed a lot of work and hadn't even been started once in 16 years. In fact, the gas in the tank was that old and the tank was rusted pretty bad. Heater channels were shot and the pans definitely need replacing. Since we were looking for something that could be driven and worked on at the same time we passed and then found this one in Amherst:
It's a VERY solid car with lots of originality...cool Bahama Blue patina look to boot. I'm doing a tune-up and a few other things for them while they are camping this weekend...and they've agreed to let us use the car for the kids to draw chalk pictures on so it will be at the show! (Ronnie...thanks for offering up a car, but this kind of fell in our lap!) Anyways, they "made" me drive it home from Amherst and it ran strong the whole way...a most excellent drive! Come by Thursday night for the Pre-show meeting and take a look!

Here are a few more pics...a couple things it needs right away are new tires, an engine compartment seal (I'm picking one up tomorrow, but could use a hand putting it in) and a rear-view mirror. All the electrical works...even the horn despite the horn button and ring needing some tightening down. It's a nice ride and is an excellent candidate for restoration.

Yo Brian...
you are fast with the posting pictures thing. Joseph has to work Thursday night, but I am
going to try and stop in on your meeting to say hello....even though you are giving us heck
about being in Hatteras instead of the VW show this weekend!!
We are excited about the bug and welcome all suggestions on fixing her up.
Thanks Brian for doing those tune up engine thingy things for us this week. Can you tell
I am not a mechanic???
Can't wait to meet everyone.

Re: Bug-less in Midlothian
Adjusted the valves, changed the fuel filter, put in new plugs, wires, points, rotor, cap and condenser today. Will change the oil and adjust the brakes tomorrow. Then warm it up and set the timing and I'll be done! I'll probably give "Annabelle" a bath, too...
Re: Bug-less in Midlothian
Brian,
Will try to get to the meeting tonight. Want to see Annabelle
and meet some of the good VW folks.
Again, thank you for helping us with our "bug".

Re: Bug-less in Midlothian
Fixed the horn today and cleaned up the engine. Unable to switch out the front light assembly that Brian gave me. The receptacle that is one that one only receives one of the wires with the clip while the original has three places to connect all three wires. It looks like the assembly is probably for Carmas and Porche models also. Also the steering wheel was frozen and took a lot of work before it would release and let me start the car. Dawn is looking forward to Friday night. I have to work Thanks Brian for all your help!
