Wheel Balancing in Richmond
Anybody know of a shop that does wheel balancing for 5 wides around here? I took my bug to Firestone today and they couldn't do it. Probably looking for a mom and pop place so if anyone has some recommendations let me know. My ride is vibrating like kurrrrazy!
Once I get into fourth gear and hit 45 it's like Chubby Checker and the fat boys..only they aren't doing the twist...they are doing the shake. Checked the shocks, good. Motor mounts on tranny are good...haven't looked at the tie rod ends, but the vibrations are coming from the back so I don't think that's an issue. Points are gapped properly, timing set and spark is good, so I don't think it's an engine issue, or transmission issue for that matter. Could use a little help or else I'll be skipping the bug out this year

I took it to the Bug Haus and Ronnie is looking at it. He didn't have time to get to it today so he'll check it tomorrow.

I saw him doing donuts in it.

LOL!!! Yeah...I caught him just as I was pulling up in the minivan. Towed the bug down there with Roy's tow-bar (thanks, Roy!) behind the van...embarrassing!
Re: Wheel Balancing in Richmond
Well...I went up to Northside Automotive (Grant's shop) in Madison for their open house the day before the Bug Out. They helped me get my wheels balanced and the bug is running smooth again! Thanks, Northside!!
Re: Wheel Balancing in Richmond
Glad they could help. Love to know what happened to my adapter.

It's been a while since this post, but does anyone know of a shop that still mounts and balances tires for old vw's? I have the 5 lug, 14" stock rims with the wide hole in the middle.
I've got some gnarly looking off-road tires for the '74 Thing I'm dying to get on in time for the Jamestown trip.

Check with Ronnie and if he can't do it...make the trip to Madison. They do great work up there!
Re: Wheel Balancing in Richmond
There's a guy that lives in Newport News that makes the adapters for $50 or something close to that. He's on the Smaba classifieds.

Re: Wheel Balancing in Richmond
Thanks for the replies guys.
Unfortunately/and or/Fortunately I found someone in Richmond that does this at their shop--that's the good news. Bad news is: I went out fist thing this morning and had it done before getting your posts! But still the same, thanks for the help.
FYI-
I went to Mincz Tire. They are in Richmond, just off of Boulevard, not too far from the Diamond. Normal charge for mounting and balancing 4 new tires is around $125. Two bolts were broken off in the drum (not on the same drum, thank goodness). So I was still able to get home. I'm thinking they broke off because they use air guns, rather than hand-tightening...
