Re: Split window bus VS Bay window bus
Right now, given life circumstances, I have to go with bays. If I have $5000 I can get a decent split project and in my spare time, which is limited due to raising three small kids and keeping a wonderful wife happy, I can work on it. On the other hand, with that $5000 I can get a nice bay window bus/camper that I can drive now and enjoy with my family. To me, it's a no brainer. However, when the kids get older and require less of my time perhaps I can focus on finding a good split. I've never owned a split bus and have only driven a couple in my life. Also, I have to consider my height...splits have very little head room for me compared to bays (I'm 6'4")...plus they seem smaller while bays I believe are roomier...and that's a big plus for a big guy like me!
Split windows,hands down!!!
No contest, split windows hands down!!!68 the year vws became Americanized,i.e.,padded dash, fat bumpers, and all the creature comforts Americans can't seem to live without.O.K.,you asked!

Re: Split window bus VS Bay window bus
I like both myself, however I dont have either right now, but what I do have is a 83 vanagon westy-----AND YES ITS A WATER BOXER .I have had them all and have enjoyed them all. Like Brain I too am 6'4" and a split dont work well with us big guys, So a Bay window works best for me.
Looks the coolest-----Split
More room/faster-----Bay
Ugliest/much more room/little bit faster---vanagon
I camp alot and The westy v-gon I have will not only get you there faster it is more comfortable for a family of 4 like mine to camp in.
I hope I dont get kicked out of the club for owning water cooled v-dubs

Re: Split window bus VS Bay window bus
ok, here is how it breaks down:
1) split window bus
2) 66 and older bug
3) type 3
4) ford pinto (station wagen with simulated wood paneling)
5) Gremlin
6) yugo
7) chevette
ford maverick

2,501) Bay window bus
2,502) 67 and newer bug
I hope this clears any confusion you may have had. That is all, you may go about your daily lives now.

Re: Split window bus VS Bay window bus
Hey, an air-cooled VW is an air-cooled VW, and if it's up and running and zipping around town then who cares if it's a bay a split, a pre-67, a post-67 or whatever. All air-cooled VWs are cool in their own way...I humbly bow down before anyone who takes the time and effort to get any air-cooled VW back on the road where they belong.

Re: Split window bus VS Bay window bus
Taylor...did you buy that red tin-top westy that was on thesamba for $3600? I think it had a roof rack up there and was 1970.
By the way...the plan is to camp before the Bealeton show on June 6th. Some of us were talking about driving up on Saturday afternoon and camping at the show site. Here is some info on that show:
