62-67 Bug Fuel Tank

Post  Tom Messeder on Thu 11 Mar - 9:47

Looking for a restorable tank for my 63 bug . Will do the POR-15 tank treatment inside then have it blasted/painted on the outside . I believe that 66 & 67 were still the same tank, someone correct me if that is not so ! Tom M.

Thanks Joe now that I think about it that sounds right about the filler neck location . I will be out at Northside Resto today and he has some wrecks/tanks for me to look over so I can confirm that or look at a picture in the 67 operating manual on the Samba . Tom

I picked up one a couple years ago at Bug out for $10. I'll keep my eye out for another one.

Thanks for looking out for me it will definitely be something that has to be looked over rather than picking one up online via Samba/Ebay, etc. Did find out after some research and looking over some cars that the filler neck on 66's & 67's was still on driver's side . Whether they are exactly the same tank as 62-65 not exactly sure yet . Tom

There was some other difference too. My OG on was on my 65 and rusted out. I think the one I bought which I don't know what year it is but it has a angled edge on one corner but it made no real difference as far as fit.
