Rotten Lemon
I just wanted to post up some pics of a car I'm giving some love on. This is wrong! I don't know what the hell people were thinking when they did these repairs in the past......screen.... foam.......tin.......fiberglass...... really?!?! Yes I said screen and rolls of it. Here are a few pics. More to come. Does anybody know this car? Dude said he just picked it up recently.
Hey Joe, is the tomoato worse than this car?
Here is the screen and foam I found in the quarter........
Here the floor is removed and this is what was left of the heater/napolean cap/bottom frame head
Before
This is what lurked under
This one made me laugh, this bar held up the running boards
This is the stuff going in after some love to the cross beam, napolean cap and ... well you get the picture.

Re: Rotten Lemon
Just a few pics of the rotten lemon, not as rotten as the tomato, but close. This is what I uncoverd today.
Just a mock up to see if pans and channels line up. I still need to cut out the crusty stuff and fix it. I tihnk I figured out how to tackle the napolean cap, and cross beam. I don't "think" it should take much longer.... "think".
What do you think?

Re: Rotten Lemon
Gave the passenger side some love today.
Here is the before pic... Damm what the hell was I thinking getting to THAT?!?
I picked up a lower frame head at midatlantic in Disputanta and used the part under the Nap. hat. The rest looked good so I didn't want to tear the whole front end apart. I fabed up the Nap. hat end. I read somewhere that Jerry bought one, and had to modify it to get it to fit, so I figured I would just make something up.
Here's that part finished, well at least together, still need to clean the welds up.
And the corner was toast. Again, I didn't see any reason to replace the whole firewall after paying for it + shipping. So I made this:
Here is that corner semi-done:

Nice work, Steve! You're awesome!
THANKS! NICE!! Pick yourself up a mig welder and start practicing beads, just look for guages of metal it welds. I started using one that was for thicker metal and everytime I got close thin metal (on a car that is 40+ years, go figure) it would just disintegrate even though I was on the lowest settings. The only class I've had was in high school metal shop freshman year, other than that it is just hands on! I have a long way to go, still learning! But good times! I want to get my bus finished after this one, but will probably help out girlfriend on her fasty, THEN on to the bus!
Good luck with the ghia, it's tons of fun and fustration, BUT worth it in the end! My favorite of redoing cars is the metal part. I think it's where you see the most progress.
